Engineering Education

ESW collegiate chapters at world-class institutions are shaping engineering education for future generations of students. Through the dedicated efforts of our faculty and student members, ESW is integrating sustainability, international awareness, and community development into the engineering curriculum across the country. Our chapters have initiated sustainability courses at many campuses, including Cornell, Northwestern, Stanford, The University of Iowa and more.

National Initiatives

Education Resource Center. This online portal has educational resources developed by ESW and non-ESW faculty and students. The Education Resource Center includes directories of sustainable engineering courses, graduate and certificate programs in sustainable engineering, call for papers for academic publications and conferences, and seminars and workshops.

Annual National Conference. Each year, at ESW's National Conference, engineering educators from across the country are invited to present models for integrating sustainability into higher education.

Chapter Initiatives

Creation of new courses. New courses at the undergraduate and graduate level integrate community development, ethics, and engineering design. Courses often include a laboratory, or project component, enabling students to gain critical hands-on experience. For more information on creating an ESW course, visit the Education Resource Center.

Integration of community development into senior and graduate-level design. Existing courses are being shaped to address global development challenges. ESW serves as a clearinghouse for educational resources, project partners, and funding opportunities.
